Flood is one of Australia’s commanding beat-masters, possessing a unique and finessed arsenal of groove, power, and control on the drums. Leading his own band from the drum chair, Alex’s music pushes a fresh rhythmic and dynamic realm of live dance music dubbed “nu-jazz”, “jazztronica” and “jazz house music”. Alex’s sound takes influence from house, UK garage, drum n’ bass, and broken beat and flips it on its head with a live band and jazzy edge. 

Since 2023 Alex’s band has been touring extensively across Europe, UK, India, New Zealand, and Australia. The band has featured on notable stages including Montreux Jazz Festival, London Jazz Festival, Ronnie Scott’s, Brick Lane Jazz Festival, Wellington Jazz Festival, Melbourne Jazz Festival, Fasching Stockholm, NMACC Mumbai, and WOMADelaide to name a few. 

Winning Australia’s Best Up and Coming Drummer Competition in 2016 was just the beginning of Flood’s accelerating trajectory in music. After graduating top of his University jazz degree in 2017, Alex signed with US label Stretch Music to release his debut album HEARTBEAT, followed by his sophomore release The Space Between in 2022. Later that year Alex toured Europe with jazz heavyweight 6x GRAMMY nominee Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah’s band. While in Berlin Flood recorded his third album “Oscillate” with an all-star lineup including Horatio Luna and Àbáse, releasing via Jakarta Records in May 2023. 

2025 saw the release of Flood’s latest offering ARTIFACTUAL RHYTHMvia Atjazz Record Company, and EP “Cut It Up” with French label Sidekick Music. Flood will release ARTIFACTUAL REMIXES LP in September 2026. 

Some notable collaborators of Alex’s include Chief Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah, Moses Yoofee, Yoni Mayraz, Àbáse, Horatio Luna, Vivian Sessoms, Cazeaux O.S.L.O, performing with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, ASO, WASO, QSO, and working with brands including Red Bull Music and Istanbul Cymbals.
